‘LA BAMBA’ AND LATINOS
Studio officials and Hollywood movie analysts are noticing the Latino market for quality films such as “La Bamba” (“Accent on the Latino Market,” by Victor Valle, July 24). I say hurray for Luis Valdez, who understands that Latinos and Anglos can relate to “the real world.” The reason his “La Bamba” is so outstanding is that it is a sincere story about your average Latino who has now assimilated into American society.
There are thousands of us who have intermingled and intermarried who are not being represented by the movie and television industry. There are also many excellent actors and performers who are half-Hispanic and could very well represent our changing society.
It’s time that we quit trying to appeal to and appease each minority individually and that we have a well-balanced ethnic representation in all forms of entertainment.
