Van Nuys Wins Suspended Game Going Away, 9-5

Van Nuys-Notre Dame scored three insurance runs in the ninth inning Saturday en route to a 9-5 victory over Reseda-Cleveland in the completion of an American Legion playoff game that was suspended because of darkness. Van Nuys-Notre Dame led, 6-5, after eight innings Friday at Birmingham High.
Van Nuys-Notre Dame advanced to today’s District 20 championship at 11 a.m. against Glendale and clinched a berth in the Area 6 playoffs at Moorpark College beginning Thursday.
When play resumed Saturday, Van Nuys-Notre Dame put two runners aboard on a walk and a throwing error by Reseda-Cleveland pitcher Kirk Surabian. Jeff Antoon’s two-run single was the key hit in the inning.
