A Venezuelan party chief said declaring bankruptcy would be one way for the government to gain creditors’ attention. Gonzalo Barrios, president of the ruling Democratic Action party, told reporters in Caracas that Venezuela needs to obtain new loans or it could be left with few international reserves. The country’s $33.2-billion foreign debt is the fourth-largest in Latin America.
