The Region : Santa Clarita Vote on Cityhood Gets OK
- Share via
Los Angeles County supervisors voted 3 to 2, with Supervisors Pete Schabarum and Deane Dana dissenting, to allow Santa Clarita Valley-area residents to vote Nov. 3 on cityhood. The proposed 40-square-mile city of Santa Clarita would be the 85th in the county. With an estimated 100,000 residents, it would include the communities of Newhall, Saugus, Valencia and a portion of Canyon Country. After supervisors voted, prospective candidates for a city council for the new city rushed to the registrar-recorder’s office in Commerce to take out their nomination papers. They must each gather 20 signatures and return the papers by 5 p.m. today.
