OK, theme park fanatics, get ready for . . . Doug Henning’s Veda Land! Instead of the usual earth-bound thrill rides, you’ll be visiting “exhibits and pavilions that will be all about the experience of enlightenment,” says a rep for the magician. Oh, to get there, you’ll have to board a higher plane--and head for India.
Henning, a devotee of Transcendental Meditation, has put his career on indefinite hold to help to develop the $200-million theme park based on the TM teachings of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. Veda Land (the word veda is from Hindu religious tradition; means sacred knowledge or a revelation ) will be located in Noida, 20 minutes outside of New Delhi.
Is Henning, now in India, involved financially? The rep said yes, “in that he is stopping his career to do it. And he plans to work on this until it happens--which will be about two years.”
Good news for the crowd-conscious: Henning recently told TM practitioners that “The Maharishi has promised there will be no lines.”
