John T. Mendel has been elected a senior vice president of Hughes Aircraft Co., Los Angeles, a subsidiary of GM Hughes Electronics. Mendel previously was vice president-corporate technology. Norman Avrech, director of offshore trade development for Hughes Aircraft, has been appointed staff vice president-business operations for Hughes International. Hughes International is the liaison organization between Hughes and its overseas customers.
