Crusading State Auditor Ray Mabus, who vowed that “Mississippi will never be last again,” won the Democratic gubernatorial nomination by a landslide over millionaire Mike Sturdivant. Mabus, 38, now faces Republican nominee Jack Reed, 63, of Tupelo, but pollsters give Reed little chance because Mississippi traditionally votes Democratic in statewide races.
