Thailand has expelled a British citizen and jailed a West German in connection with alleged spying for the Soviet Union, according to authorities and newspaper reports. An immigration official, who asked not to be identified, said that Geoffrey John Higginson, 33, a former British security officer, was put aboard an international flight. The reasons for ousting Higginson, who was arrested Aug. 20, involved “endangering national security” and visa violations, the official said. Tomas Benes, 37, a West German of Czech origin, was jailed pending an investigation of the spying allegations, the official added.
