Suits against A. H. Robins Co.’s insurance carrier were properly frozen during Robins’ Dalkon Shield-related bankruptcy reorganization, a federal appeals court in Richmond, Va., said. The three-judge panel of the 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, in a separate ruling, also upheld a finding that denied appointment of a trustee to manage Robins during its Chapter 11 proceedings. Suits were brought by more than 4,000 women who claimed injuries from using the Dalkon Shield birth control device, sold by Robins in the early 1970s.
