Racing at Del Mar : McCarron Gets 3rd Win of Day in Torrey Pines

DEL MAR — Julie The Flapper took the lead for good with about one-sixteenth of a mile to go Thursday and went on to win the $55,250 Torrey Pines Stakes by 1 lengths over Fleet Road before a crowd of 13,072 at Del Mar.
The win was the fifth in six starts for Julie The Flapper, a 3-year-old filly who won her first four outings before finishing seventh in the Chula Vista Handicap at Del Mar Aug. 26.
Julie The Flapper, the 9-5 favorite ridden by Chris McCarron, covered 1 1/16 miles in 1:412/5 and paid $5.60, $4.20 and $3.20. The win was the third of the day for McCarron.
Fleet Road, the second betting choice ridden by Laffit Pincay, crossed the finish line 1 3/4 lengths in front of Hollywood Glitter and returned $4.60 and $3.40. Hollywood Glitter, ridden by Gary Baze, paid $5.60 to show.
A field of six headed by Judge Angelucci was entered for Saturday’s inaugural running of the $150,000-added Del Mar Budweiser Breeders’ Cup Stakes.
Judge Angelucci will be ridden by Baze and will carry top weight of 123 pounds in the one-mile race.
Others entered: Show Dancer, 114, Pincay; Good Command, 114, McCarron; Stop The Fighting, 114, Eddie Delahoussaye; Candi’s Gold, 113, Bill Shoemaker, and Bold Smoocher, 112, Alex Solis.
