The Miss Bellflower Pageant on Friday kicks off Liberty Week--Bellflower’s 30th birthday celebration. Through Nov. 8, the city will sponsor a parade, live music, fireworks show, carnival and other events.
Sunday is Heritage Day, which will be celebrated with a chili cook-off and vintage auto display at Carpenter Museum in Caruthers Park. On Nov. 6, there will be a carnival at Thompson Park. On Nov. 7, the Liberty Day parade will travel down Bellflower Boulevard at 11 a.m. and will be followed by music, dancing and a fireworks show at Thompson Park later in the evening.
Liberty Week has been a tradition in Bellflower since the city’s incorporation in 1957, said city curator Muriel MacGregory, who just completed “Peoples and Places,” a history book covering Bellflower’s last 30 years.
