Tom Watson, who scored his first victory in more than three years when he won the $3 million Nabisco Championship of Golf in San Antonio two weeks ago, Sunday came within one shot of winning again.
Waston, playing in the $667,000 Taiheiyo Club Masters golf tournament in Gotemba, Japan, finished a stroke behind Australia’s Graham Marsh.
Marsh, who started the final round four shots off the pace, had the day’s best score, a 66, to finish with a 276 total. Watson, who started one shot back, shot a 70.
Marsh pocketed $120,000 for his 23rd victory in Japan and first this season. Watson earned $66,600.
In a $200,000 seniors golf tournament at Melbourne, Fla., Dave Hill shot a 4-under-par 68 to win by five strokes. Hill’s last victory as a pro came in 1976, when he won the Milwaukee Open.
