Pyewacket Is Leading Race to Cabo San Lucas

Pushed by strong northwest winds, Roy Disney’s 70 foot sloop Pyewacket, out of Los Angeles Yacht Club, logged 203.6 miles in 20 hours of sailing to lead the International Offshore Rule (IOR) yachts in the 800-mile Long Beach to Cabo San Lucas race. The race for the Class A and B yachts started at noon Saturday.
At the 8 a.m. Sunday rollcall Pyewacket had logged an average speed of 10.2 knots and was five miles ahead of David Askew’s Santa Cruz-70 Citius, Long Beach Yacht Club,198 miles from the start. Third on elapsed time was the 68-foot Prima, co-skippered by Livingston and Feuerstein, Del Rey Yacht Club, seven miles behind Citius.
