ARSAW — A court fined two men $630 each for trying to leave Poland without passports by windsurfing across the Baltic Sea to Sweden, the official news agency PAP reported.
When border police seized the two men, Daniel Grotowski and Jaroslaw Dobrucki, they were carrying only a compass, map, drinking water and a tent on their craft, the agency said. It is illegal to leave Poland without a passport, which is a difficult document to obtain for most citizens in this Communist country.
