Girls’ Basketball : Louisville Uses Balance to Beat Calabasas by 17

Calabasas High held Kristin Carpenter to four points but Louisville’s other four starters all scored in double figures as the Royals defeated Calabasas, 60-43, in a nonleague game Tuesday at Calabasas.
Calabasas trailed by only six points at halftime, 25-19, and after three quarters, 39-33, before Louisville pulled away in the final quarter.
Carpenter, Louisville’s leading scorer with a 14-point average, was triple-teamed the entire game and passed to her open teammates for baskets. Becky Long led Louisville (8-8, 2-1) with 16 points, Colleen King and Mary Hutson each added 12 and Kelly Alexy had 10. King also grabbed 17 rebounds.
Thousand Oaks 80, Royal 37--Three players scored in double figures for visiting Thousand Oaks, which won its 10th game in a row and remained in first place in the Marmonte League.
Barbara Tanner (18 points), Kris Pederson (17) and Cindy Wiley (13) led the Lancers (17-3, 6-0), who are ranked fifth in the Southern Section 4-A Division.
Newbury Park 59, Camarillo 50--Newbury Park’s defense forced Camarillo to make costly turnovers in the Marmonte League game at Newbury Park. Nichole Victoria scored a game-high 29 points for Camarillo (8-5, 3-2).
Chris Singer scored 20 points to lead Newbury Park (12-3, 4-1 in league play), which is ranked ninth in the Southern Section 4-A Division.
Schurr 38, Burbank 36--Jennifer Gomez scored eight points for Burbank (10-5, 2-2 in league), which dropped to third place in the Foothill League.
Burroughs 53, San Gabriel 36--Quais VanBenschoten scored 19 points and had 17 rebounds, and teammate Kelley McCauley scored 18 points as visiting Burroughs improved to 2-2 in Foothill League play. Burroughs, which led the entire game, is 15-3 overall. San Gabriel is 3-13, 0-4 in league play.
