San Diego composers of serious organ music are flexing their diapasons this week. Civic organist Robert Plimpton will be performing Daniel Burton’s “Seven Dances of Creation” in a solo recital Saturday at Palo Alto’s First United Methodist Church. Burton is both organist and composer in residence at San Diego’s First United Methodist Church.
At St. Paul’s Episcopal Cathedral, resident organist Edgar Billups will premiere Robert W. Jones’ “A Carnival in Venice” following the Feb. 7 evensong service. A recent addition to the local composers’ roster, Jones wrote the piece for Billups on a grant from the cathedral and from COMBO.
