Tribune Co.’s net fell 52% to $142 million for 1987, compared to the previous year. Operating revenue totaled $2.160 billion, up 6% from 1986. The Chicago-based media company said fourth-quarter earnings rose 102% to $43 million, compared to the year-ago quarter. The firm said the results were due to losses at the New York Daily News and a modest decline in broadcast profits, which were more than offset by higher income from newsprint and record results for the quarter and the year at the Chicago Tribune, Fort Lauderdale News & Sun-Sentinel and the Orlando Sentinel.
