Local News in Brief : Glendale’s Top Planner Heading for San Diego

After 17 years with the city, Glendale’s longtime planning director will leave his post Friday to accept a new position as assistant planning director for San Diego County.
Gerald J. Jamriska has served as planning director in Glendale since June, 1970. He includes among his major accomplishments the adoption of a new general plan in 1977 and the recent completion of a zoning consistency plan and design review process.
Councilman Jerold F. Milner this week praised Jamriska’s role in directing the growth of Glendale and said the veteran planner “has left his fingerprints all over this city.”
Jamriska will step from a position in which he governed 18 employees, a $1 million budget and planning for a city with 33 square miles to a department which has 300 employees, a $13 million budget and a territory of 4,000 square miles.
Jamriska, 49, said he will make his new home in Rancho Bernardo. He is married and has three daughters.
