STUTTGART, West Germany — Thirty-five thousand Bibles were put on two Soviet trucks that departed for Moscow today under a Soviet government agreement to allow shipment of 110,000 to mark the 1,000th anniversary of Christianity in Russia, the German Bible Society said.
The first shipment, which weighs 28 tons, consists of 25,000 Bibles in the Russian language and 10,000 in German for the German-speaking Mennonite community in Central Asia, the society said. The other shipments will all be Russian-language Bibles.
