Rick & the Homeless

There seems to be an unfortunate misunderstanding regarding my comments in Patrick Goldstein’s Pop Eye column, which I feel compelled to clarify.
The article made it appear as if I am highly insensitive to the very real crisis of the city’s homeless; nothing could be further from the truth.
The issue I was trying to spotlight was the drug pushing in Los Angeles, as well as on our beaches, and I had tried to reach Goldstein to explain this.
Being anti-drugs is a far cry from being anti-homeless, and I hope The Times will be fair enough to indicate this. Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to explain this matter.
