Effectiveness of State Legislators
Thank you for the article (Jan. 24) concerning Orange County’s state legislators. For many years, the county has been treated unfairly because of the reputation and antics of legislators such as John Briggs and John Schmitz. Fortunately, today’s Orange County delegation is more pragmatic and effective.
Also, as your article points out, the presence of state Sen. Cecil Green has helped Orange County immensely. For example, it was he who persuaded the Democratic legislators in Sacramento to approve the recent toll-road bill.
As Green states in the article, his ties to the Senate Democratic leadership will help in getting legislation important to the county passed. Equally valuable are the county’s Republican ties to Gov. George Deukmejian.
The county needs hard-working legislators from both parties to succeed in Sacramento.
