Housing for Seniors Opens in Ocean Park

The Liffman House, a newly constructed cooperative senior apartment community in the Ocean Park area, has opened under sponsorship of Alternative Living for the Aging, a nonprofit organization that provides housing alternatives for older people.
The complex, located on 4th Street between Pico and Ocean Park boulevards, consists of six two-bedroom/two bath apartments renting for $396.
Janet Witkin, ALA’s executive director, said units are designed for two seniors or couples older than 62 years of age, each having a private room and bath and shared kitchen--a concept designed to encourage the “buddy” system.
Liffman House, ALA’s fourth senior residential community, has a community room and laundry facilities as well as resident parking. ALA, headquartered in West Hollywood, also offers a roommate matching service that has paired more than 2,200 seniors in shared housing situations, either in their own houses or apartments.
