Watching “Brand New Day” one can’t help but wonder whether director Amos Gitai is a willing or frustrated pawn of David Stewart and Annie Lennox--of the Eurythmics. There a constant sense of someone poised to capture something meaningful as we trail the group’s recent tour of Japan. As either a concert film or the ethnographic observations of interested outsiders it falls seriously and dramatically short of full potential. There are no pearls of wisdom here, no insights and ultimately nothing of substance to explain the exercise.
