Mayor Moscone
Your editorial “Whither Baghdad by the Bay?” (Dec. 24) has recently come to my attention. As the former press secretary to the late San Francisco Mayor George Moscone and as a friend and associate of the late mayor for many years, I take great offense on behalf of his memory, his family, and indeed all of his friends and supporters at your depiction of Mayor Moscone as a “mayor whose style reflected the trend of San Francisco toward wealth and sophistication.”
The author of that particular line never knew George Moscone nor anything about his personal financial status nor the politics and constituencies he represented as a state senator and as mayor.
I think you owe all of us who knew and admired George Moscone an apology for your carelessness in depicting him in such an erroneous fashion.
