Meanwhile, Robert Guillaume (“Benson”) is co-producing a comedy pilot for ABC in which he would star as a divorced marriage counselor and father of two who works out of his home--and courts a white woman (played by Alexandra Borrie). “The Robert Guillaume Show,” currently in production from New World TV, originated with an interracial marriage rather than a romance. But that idea was dropped, said co-exec producer Phil Margo because “the script just wasn’t what they (the network) wanted it to be.”
As for controversy, he said, “The best thing that can happen is that people raise their objections, because then people will watch the show, and then they can judge for themselves.”
