Community College Baseball : Paquette Gets Four Hits in Golden West Victory

Craig Paquette went 4 for 6 with eight RBIs to lead Golden West College to a 14-7 victory over Merced Saturday in the second round of the Cypress tournament.
Among Paquette’s hits were a grand slam and two doubles. Golden West’s Jim Buccheri went 3 for 5 with a solo home run, a triple and two stolen bases.
Winning pitcher Ken Hokuf (1-0) pitched 7 innings and allowed 5 hits and 2 runs. Golden West is 2-0.
In other Cypress tournament games:
Cypress 5, El Camino 3--Steve Gill went 3 for 3 with two doubles and two RBIs to lead Cypress (6-1). Winning pitcher Benny Gonzales allowed nine hits. El Camino’s Steve Juno went 2 for 5 with two RBIs.
In nonconference games:
Rancho Santiago 21, Los Angeles Valley 7--Rancho Santiago scored four runs in the first, fourth and seventh innings at home. The Dons scored three runs in the third and eighth innings, and failed to score only in the second inning.
Bob Hamlin and John McTaggert each hit a two-run home run. It was Hamlin’s third homer of the season, McTaggert’s second. Tom Lloid and Tom Gonzales added solo home runs for Rancho Santiago. Winning pitcher Willie Naverette is 2-0.
Saddleback 7, San Diego City 4--Chris Latham went 3 for 3 with 2 runs scored and 2 stolen bases to lead Saddleback (2-2) at San Diego. Saddleback trailed, 2-1, but scored four runs in the fourth to take the lead for good. Rick Bonner’s two-run two-out single was the big hit in the fourth. Winning pitcher Dean Martinez (1-1) went seven innings and gave up six hits.
