The Times feels that the court lacks independence because it adopted the federal standards for the use of confessions in criminal cases. This is not a lack of independent thinking. Perhaps the court would have adopted a position even more favorable to prosecutors had it the authority to do so.
If you don’t like the ruling, say so and say why, but don’t pretend that liberal thinking is synonymous with independent thinking.
