Long Beach : Bus Line Changes Proposed

A public hearing is scheduled Saturday by the Southern California Rapid Transit District Board of Directors to consider various bus fare proposals and a number of service changes, including three proposals affecting the Long Beach area. The board also will consider proposals calling for employer and business subsidy support for the RTD.
The hearing will begin at 9 a.m. in the second-floor board room at 425 S. Main St., Los Angeles.
Under one proposal, the regular monthly pass price would increase from $32 to $40 and the base cash fare would increase from 85 cents to $1. The board will seek public comment on a proposal to establish a new, two-week bus pass, which RTD officials say would be more affordable to lower-income riders.
In the Long Beach area, the board will consider a proposal to cancel Line 146, which runs from downtown Long Beach to San Pedro, and to possibly start a new express line in the area. Another proposal is for additional service during peak periods to Line 232, which runs from Long Beach to Los Angeles International Airport.
If approved by the 11-member board, the fare changes could take effect as early as April 1. Service changes would become effective June 26 or later.
