Cal Lutheran Upsets Dominguez Hills

Matt Shepherd turned in his second strong pitching performance of the season to lead Cal Lutheran, an NAIA District III team, to an 8-4 upset win over Cal State Dominguez Hills on Wednesday at Cal Lutheran. Dominguez Hills is ranked No. 4 in the NCAA Division II.
Shepherd (2-0) worked 8 innings, striking out 9 and walking 2, to pick up the win.
Sean Wheelock picked up his first save by recording the final out after Shepherd, a junior transfer, allowed three runs in the last two innings.
Anthony Espitia, also a junior transfer, hit two home runs and Henry Campos hit one for Cal Lutheran (4-4). Jon Egertson, Kevin Wynn, Dan Weiss and Dave Hallisey each doubled for the Kingsmen.
