“Waldheim”--an HBO Showcase special about the embattled Austrian president set to air in June--will reveal new evidence linking Austrian President Kurt Waldheim to Gestapo informers, according to a spokesman for the pay-cable network. Statements from an eyewitness scheduled to appear during the three- to four-hour show allege that while Waldheim was serving in the Balkans during World War II, he regularly was visited by and received reports from known Gestapo informers. To date, a team of 24 researchers have compiled 8,000 pages of material as evidence that Waldheim was linked to war crimes, an HBO spokesman said.
