Gillette Co. reported a fourth-quarter profit of $58.3 million, contrasted with a loss of $124.3 million in the year-ago period. Sales rose 10% to $866.3 million. For the year, profit rose to $229.9 million from $15.8 million in 1986, which included a $165.3-million after-tax charge for restructuring. The Boston company credited the turnaround to strong operating performance, coupled with restructuring activities.
