Two more candidates indicated Thursday that they would join an already-crowded field to seek the Republican nomination in the 40th Congressional District, where 12-year House of Representatives veteran Robert E. Badham (R-Newport Beach) is retiring.
They are Kathleen Latham, 46, of Irvine, an entrepreneur and finance and information systems management consultant, and K. Ralph Raat, 51, an attorney from Santa Ana.
Latham would be the only woman in the Republican race if she files declaration of candidacy papers by the March 11 deadline.
Eight other Republicans have already said they will run for the seat, and a ninth, Adam Kiernik, 38, of Huntington Beach, plans to announce his candidacy today.
