The parents of a 23-year-old Cal State Chico student who was killed during a 1983 fraternity hazing will receive a $115,000 settlement, attorneys said. Jeffrey Franklin Long, a fraternity pledge, was struck and killed by a car driven by another pledge who was taking part in a midnight fraternity ritual. Michael A. Davirro, then 20, was charged with vehicular manslaughter in the death but was acquitted by a jury in 1985. Davirro testified that his car accidentally struck Long. Long and several other pledges had been dropped off on a rural road outside Chico, given beer and wine and told to make their way back to campus.
