College Roundup : UCI Gains Split With Pepperdine

Marcus Robinson drove in three runs and had three hits as UC Irvine defeated Pepperdine, 7-5, for a split of a nonconference baseball doubleheader Saturday at Pepperdine. Doug Simons pitched a three-hitter as Pepperdine won the opener, 3-0, in a seven-inning game.
Irvine took a 6-2 lead in the nine-inning second game with a four-run fourth inning, in which Robinson hit a two-run double. Jeff Oberdank had two hits and an RBI in the second game for Irvine (7-8-1). Pepperdine is 5-6.
In another nonconference baseball game:
Cal State Fullerton 22, The Master’s 4--Brent Mayne and Jim Osborn hit back-to-back home runs in the second for host Fullerton (7-6). Mike Ross hit his fifth home run of the season and Mark Razook had two hits and three RBIs for Cal State Fullerton.
In Pacific Coast Athletic Assn. women’s basketball:
UC Irvine 60, UC Santa Barbara 49--Cheryl Eiland scored 22 points and Natalie Crawford 15 for host Irvine (10-12, 8-6), which has won seven of its last 10 games.
Cal State Long Beach 80, Cal State Fullerton 43--Penny Toler and Shamil Coleman scored 17 points each for host Long Beach (17-5, 13-0). Gena Miller scored 12 points and had 18 rebounds for Fullerton (14-10, 9-6).
