Polish police in Rzeszow detained 10 demonstrators following a Mass marking the 7th anniversary of the outlawed Rural Solidarity union, opposition sources said. At least 150 demonstrators, many of them elderly, began a march to protest the government’s recent price hikes and to demand legal status for the union. Meanwhile, eight leaders of the Solidarity free trade union were released after being detained Saturday by police.
