Jim Woods, 71, one of major league baseball’s most popular announcers in a 26-year career with six clubs, died late Saturday after a long illness in Altamonte Springs, Fla.
Woods’ widow, Audrey, said that her husband, a World War II Navy veteran, would be buried in Arlington National Cemetery.
A native of Kansas City, Woods started his major league career opposite Mel Allen with the New York Yankees in 1953. Woods also worked for the New York Giants, Pittsburgh Pirates, St Louis Cardinals, Oakland A’s and Boston Red Sox.
