“Innervisions.” Stevie Wonder. Tamla. Unlike record companies that tend to put only their least attractive albums in budget CD packages, Motown has channeled many of its most popular and acclaimed releases--including this album on its Tamla subsidiary--in its budget 9000 series (CDs retailing for about $9.99 each). The “Innervisions” LP was the first of three consecutive socially conscious and musically stimulating collections that won album-of-the-year Grammys for Wonder in the ‘70s. Some of the synthesizer-based music seems almost commonplace today, but that is more a tribute to the enormous impact of Wonder’s music on ‘80s pop-soul than a criticism of the music. ****
