As the pool of young, entry-level workers declines, mentoring is gaining popularity in American business, according to Personnel Journal, a human resources management publication.
Mentoring, in which a senior member of a company’s management provides direct counseling and career guidance for a junior member or a new hire, is designed to make the protege feel more closely identified with the company.
Personnel Journal says mentoring can be particularly successful in recently acquired organizations because young managers can get to know new senior managers.
