MORNING REPORT : Cher Breaks Into Top 10

Cher, it seems, has been doing no wrong lately, and now she’s back in the Top 10. Her “I Found Someone” single jumped from No. 14 to No. 10 on the Billboard magazine pop chart. The single rescued “Cher,” her first album in years, from its slow start and is helping to push it up the LP chart to No. 47. “Appetite for Destruction,” by L.A. rockers Guns N’ Roses, has been climbing steadily. Now No. 21, it may even sneak into the Top 10. Pop singles: George Michael’s “Father Figure” is still the No. 1 pop single; Richard Marx, who seems to have an endless stream of hits, shot up seven notches to No. 8 with his single, “Endless Summer Nights,” and Michael Jackson cracked the Top 10 again with “Man in the Mirror” (No. 9).
* Aussie metal veterans AC/DC, once among the heavies of the genre, appeared headed for the scrapheap in the last few years. But metal has been revitalized, and so has this high-voltage crew. “Blow Up Your Video” burst onto the pop album chart at No. 23.
