Santa Barbara, with senior forward Paul Johnson getting 29 points, upset previously undefeated and second-seeded Glendora, 57-50, in a Southern Section 4-A boys’ quarterfinal basketball game Friday night at Santa Barbara College.
Johnson, who has signed a national letter of intent with UC Santa Barbara, hit 8 of 11 shots from the field. Bill Deoring, with 17 points, was the only other Santa Barbara player in double figures.
Glendora was led by 6-7 junior Tracy Murray, who had 29 points before fouling out midway through the fourth quarter. Murray had 20 points in the first half, but Johnson, assigned to guard him in the second half, limited him to 9 points. Glendora’s other offensive threat, guard Kit Bond, was limited to eight points.
