An inmate at the California Correctional Institute in Tehachapi was shot to death by a state prison guard after ignoring warnings to stop fighting with another prisoner in the exercise yard, authorities said. Francisco Miranda, 22, who was serving time for grand theft auto and resisting arrest, was chased by another prisoner, Bobby Lopez, 23, into the exercise yard, Lt. Jim Gamboa said. A fight began and guards warned them to stop. After the inmates ignored several warnings to stop, a guard fired one rifle shot, hitting Miranda in the left shoulder, the spokesman said. Miranda was pronounced dead at the prison infirmary. Lopez, who was serving time for drug dealing, was uninjured. No charges were immediately filed against him.
