Apple Computer unveiled a new disk drive that expands computer storage capacity with the same laser technology that has refined the audio industry. The compact disk, read-only memory, or CD-ROM, drive uses a laser beam like audio CD players to read the information off a disk. A 12-centimeter disk for Apple’s CD-ROM can store as much as 700 Macintosh floppy diskettes, or about 270,000 pages of typewritten text. Apple’s CD-ROM hooks up to its Macintosh and Apple II computers. CD-ROM disks can store much more information than conventional storage disks
