Angry Group Confronts Police After Shooting

A group of people angered by the San Diego police’s fatal shooting of a suspected drug dealer Sunday night later confronted police outside a Hillcrest hospital, resulting in two arrests and injuries to four officers, police said.
The confrontation at the hospital was an outgrowth of a shooting that occurred shortly after 6 p.m. when two officers witnessed an apparent drug buy near 29th Street and Imperial Avenue.
Police said that when the officers approached the suspect he fled by foot west on Imperial. After the officers caught up with the suspect behind a house in the 2900 block of Imperial, there was a struggle for a gun, resulting in the suspect being shot, police said.
The suspect later died at the UC San Diego Medical Center, police said.
Several hours later, a group of people, including the dead man’s wife, angrily confronted police at the hospital to protest the shooting, police said. In the ensuing confrontation, two men were arrested and four officers suffered minor injuries, police said.
As of late Sunday night, the suspect had not been identified and police had released no other details relating to the shooting or to the confrontation at the hospital.
