Palmer Plays in Senior Shoot-Out Today

Arnold Palmer, one of the top drawing cards in professional golf, is among those entered today in a shoot-out at Wood Ranch in Simi Valley, the opening event of the PGA Senior Tour’s GTE tournament.

Orville Moody, winner of the Vintage Invitational last week in a record-breaking 25-under-par performance; Simi Valley defending champion Bob Charles, and Chi Chi Rodriguez are also in the nine-hole event.

In a shoot-out, 10 golfers participate. One is eliminated on each hole until a winner is determined on the last hole.

Others in the shoot-out are Al Geiberger, Butch Baird, Dale Douglass, Dave Hill, Bruce Crampton and Doug Sanders.

The 54-hole tournament, the only Los Angeles stop on the rapidly growing tour for the 50-and-older set, will start Friday.

All of the top senior players will compete in the tournament except Gary Player, who said he is returning to South Africa to spend some time with his family.
