Monterey Park : Plans for Hotel Approved
City officials have approved plans for a 39-room hotel that will replace the existing Silver Sands motel and the Buckeye Liquor Store on Garvey Avenue.
David Tsai, a local architect who is overseeing the project, said the developer, Shyr-Jin Tsay of El Monte, expects the Silver Sands and the liquor store to be demolished by late summer. Construction at the site, 745 E. Garvey Ave., is scheduled to be completed by June, 1989.
The hotel will be designed with arches, earth-tone stucco and ceramic tile. To reduce traffic problems on Garvey Avenue, parking spaces and the driveway will be behind the building, away from the street.
