British Aerospace, Britain’s leading aircraft builder, said it is planning to cut its work force by almost 3,000 people over the next three years. The cuts will be made in the dynamics division formed in January by combining the air weapons, army weapons and naval and electronic systems divisions. A company statement said the 15% cut in its 18,700 work force would be carried out largely through early retirements. Staff retraining and relocation would also be offered. The company blamed the “unsatisfactory” amount of production work scheduled for the late 1980s, due in part to delays on previous projects and international budgetary constraints.
