Brezhnev’s Name Erased from Center

MOSCOW — The Soviet leadership on Saturday announced that former Kremlin chief Leonid I. Brezhnev’s name had been stripped from a cosmonaut training center in a new move downgrading his status.
The Bulletin of the Supreme Soviet (Parliament) said Brezhnev’s name had been removed from Star City, a complex north of Moscow named after the Soviet leader following his death in 1982.
The move was part of a process of “de-Brezhnevization” under current leader Mikhail S. Gorbachev, who has often condemned Brezhnev’s administration for stagnation and corruption.
