Columbia Records’ Jazz Masterpiece Series of reissued classic albums has topped the 1 million mark in unit sales, the company said. The six batches of releases in two years now total 48 different albums and four samplers. Included are top works of Louis Armstrong, Count Basie, Dave Brubeck, Miles Davis, Duke Ellington, Erroll Garner, Stan Getz, Benny Goodman, Woody Herman, Billie Holiday, Charles Mingus and Thelonious Monk. A seventh wave of reissues, scheduled for May, will include works by Brubeck, Davis, Basie, Goodman, Ray Bryant, Earl Hines and a small-group compilation album from the 1940s.
