“The Return of the Juju King.” King Sunny Ade. Mercury. There are no less than 17 titles on this CD, compiled from three albums King Sunny Ade has released in Nigeria since 1986. Not to worry: Ade hasn’t suddenly become enamored of brevity and abandoned his extended, polyrhythmic, percussion-dominated “Juju music” workouts. Most of the songs run together and there are, in fact, only five separate cuts. Because there’s no lyric sheet in the CD liner notes, we can only approximate the meaning from the tone of the music, which is characteristically hypnotic, joyful and eminently danceable. Sound quality: very good. ***
