Negotiations have been initiated to bring Andris Liepa, a leading dancer with the Bolshoi Ballet, to appear in the title role in Eugene Loring’s “Billy the Kid” at UC Irvine in October, according to Don Bradburn, artistic director of the UCI Dance Ensemble.
The celebrated Bolshoi dancer, who has recently appeared with the New York City Ballet, was last seen in Southern California in August during the Bolshoi’s first U.S. tour after an eight-year absence.
